Ryan spotted Location Scouting in Detroit?

Ryan was reportedly seen location scouting in Detroit for his upcoming directorial debut “How To Catch a Monster”.

Gosling was spotted Wednesday morning by WXYZ-TV photojournalist Mike Krotche, who was filming an abandoned house fire in Detroit when he saw the actor accompanied by a few people and got the polite but reticent group to say they were scouting locations.

The actor has previously expressed fondness for Detroit, which he got to know during the local filming for “The Ides of March” in 2011.

The buzz is that the actor is here for preliminary scouting, possibly for “How to Catch a Monster,” a film that would be his directing debut. “Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks, who appeared with Gosling in the moody “Drive,” is reportedly the star of the movie, which according to a press release “weaves elements of fantasy noir and suspense into a modern day fairytale.”

There was a Gosling sighting at Motor City Brewing Works earlier this week. A source, unnamed because he isn’t authorized to talk about the visit, said the actor has been looking at possible shooting locations in the Cass Corridor. There also has been unconfirmed chatter on the Web that puts Gosling all over metro Detroit.

The Michigan Film Office is aware of Gosling’s visit and has been receiving calls and texts from teen and grown-up female Gosling fans. The office hasn’t received any application for the state’s film incentives regarding a Gosling project.

Those who’ve talked to Gosling are mostly staying mum, while those who haven’t are looking for him everywhere.

Café d’Mongo’s owner Larry Mongo, who befriended Gosling during his “Ides of March” stay after the actor visited his hip nightspot, hasn’t seen Gosling, but has been swamped with inquiries.

“Yesterday, there were a ton of people coming by. They came to see if he was here,” said Mongo. His message to his friend? “Don’t make me go out and find you,” he joked Thursday, inviting Gosling to drop by during this visit.

Over at the WDZH-FM (98.7 AMP) radio station, the Buck and Coop morning duo sent their executive producer out to search for Gosling, a mission that seems to have resulted in her being escorted out of a hotel by security.

WYCD-FM (99.5) midday host Jack Shell took a less intrusive approach. He was behind the call today during the “Lunch On Demand” request segment from a man identifying himself as Gosling. The fake Gosling told the country station he was a big Travis Tritt fan and also shared that he was in town for an American Coney Island hot dog-eating contest.

Shell got the inspiration from all of the Gosling hubbub he’d been hearing. “Everybody’s got the Ryan Gosling fever right now,” he said. “I took my temperature last night and it was over one hundred.”

And the Facebook postings and Twitter messages regarding Gosling’s visit keep arriving. Our favorite tweet expresses the thoughts of a wide range of women: “Spotted: Ryan Gosling buying me a drink while in #Detroit. Location: In my dreams.”

Ryan will make his directorial debut with “How To Catch a Monster”. He also wrote the screenplay.

Ryan Gosling is making his directorial debut with “How To Catch a Monster,” it was announced today. The film — produced by Marc Platt and Adam Siegel on behalf of Marc Platt Productions — will be based on an original screenplay by Gosling, and star his “Drive” co-star Christina Hendricks.

“I am very appreciative to Marc Platt, Adam Siegel and Bold Films for being so supportive and I look forward to making this film with all of them,” Gosling said in a statement.

Sierra / Affinity will handle international sales for the film which will be made available to buyers for the first time at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. His ability to draw audiences into his world as an actor will serve him well as a filmmaker.”

The film is described by the press release as the following:

“‘How To Catch a Monster’ weaves elements of fantasy noir, and suspense into a modern day fairytale. Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.”

The film marks Gosling’s first time writing and directing a feature film.

Ryan is one of the celebrities who are part of the letter to Walmart’s CEO Mike Duke, on behalf of Mercy For Animals. Other celebrities include Zooey & Emily Deschanel and Kristen Bell.

Hollywood stars are squealing mad over Walmart’s treatment of pigs after MFA’s undercover investigation exposed rampant cruelty to animals at a factory farm supplying pork to the retail giant.

In a letter fired off today to Walmart’s CEO Mike Duke, on behalf of Mercy For Animals, Ryan Gosling, Kristen Bell, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel, Tom Morello, Kim Basinger, David Boreanaz, Ed Begley Jr., John Francis Daley, James Cromwell, Steve-O, and Loretta Swit wrote: “We implore you to help end the needless suffering of these animals by ending the sale of pork from producers who confine pigs in cages so small they can’t even turn around for nearly their entire lives.”

TIFF 2012 Schedule

The official schedule for the Toronto International Film Festival - which runs from September 6 to 16 - was announced earlier today. “The Place Beyond the Pines” is selected for the festival and will have it’s first screening September 7. Ryan is expected to attend according to the official press release of the festival.

"Gangster Squad" Reshoots Information

THR has information about the reshoots for “Gangster Squad”, which will take place in the week of August 20.

A shooting sequence inside Hollywood’s Chinese Theatre has been scrapped in response to the Aurora movie theater massacre.

Warner Bros. has set the week of August 20 for reshoots of Gangster Squad, the movie whose release date was shifted in response to the Aurora, Colo., theater shootings.

Gangster Squad, a period crime drama starring Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn and Josh Brolin, featured a key action sequence with mobsters bursting through the silver screen of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood with Tommy guns blazing. The bloody gunplay continued in the lobby and courtyard and spilled onto Hollywood Boulevard.

But in the wake of the July 20 massacre during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises (also from Warner Bros.), the studio decided to push back the release date from Sept. 7 to Jan. 11 and reconceive the theater sequence. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the action will now move to L.A.’s Chinatown. The main players in the scene — Gosling, Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Robert Patrick, Troy Garity and Michael Pena — are being brought back for night shoots scheduled for five days, according to insiders.

Gangster Squad, directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), is based on a series of Los Angeles Times articles detailing the LAPD’s fight to keep the mob out of L.A. in the 1940s and 50s. The Chinese Theatre sequence was fictionalized (it never actually happened) and was designed to be a show-stopping set piece in the film, with Fleischer taking great pains to accurately re-create Christmas in Hollywood circa 1950.

The Chinatown neighborhood offers another iconic L.A. locale and can be made to look like the 1950s without much effects work. Warner Bros. declined comment on the reshoots.

"Gangster Squad" Gets Delayed (Confirmed)

Warner Bros confirmed yesterday that “The Gangster Squad” will get delayed a few months.

Warner Bros confirmed this evening it has moved Gangster Squad from September 7 to January 11, 2013. The delay will allow filmmakers to excise a shootout scene that takes place in a movie theater, due to the Aurora, Colorado tragedy at a midnight Thursday screening of The Dark Knight Rises. An alternate murder spree scene will be shot that does not take place in a movie theater. The six months of breathing room should help return the focus to the L.A. mob storyline.

"The Place Beyond The Pines" Selected for TIFF 2012!

The first movies that were selected for the Toronto International Film Festival were announced earlier this morning. Variety already leaked a list, but it’s now officially confirmed that “The Place Beyond The Pines” was selected for the festival as ‘Special Presentation’.

Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes star in this multi-generational crime drama from director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine), about a motorcycle stunt rider whose moonlighting a bank robber brings him into conflict with an ambitious young cop.

In that recent YouTube clip of Ryan Gosling breaking up a street fight, the two chatty girls manning the camera know that he’s famous, but they struggle to place him, until one remembers that he was in The Notebook. For all of Gosling’s cult and critical appeal these days, it’s important to realize that he’s still “The guy in The Notebook” to mass audiences, though he’s beginning to break through in a big way.

2011 was a particularly important year for Gosling, who had taken several years off from acting and studio movies in general: He channeled Steve McQueen cool in Nicolas Winding Refn’s stuntman actioner Drive; gave a solid performance in George Clooney’s political drama The Ides of March; and co-starred along with Steve Carell, Emma Stone, and his own abs in the rom-com Crazy, Stupid, Love, the first movie he’s made that actually outgrossed The Notebook. But does Gosling have any intention on becoming the studio star he could be? It’s true that he’s a part of the upcoming crime drama Gangster Squad (with Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, and Emma Stone again), but after that Oscar nod for 2006’s Half Nelson, it’s clear that his tastes run towards indie and will most likely continue to: Gosling’s next few projects include small-budget reunions with the directors of Drive and Blue Valentine, plus a Terrence Malick film. "Gangster Squad" Re-Shoots + Movie Update

Ryan was seen filming re-shoots for “Gangster Squad” this weekend with his co-star Josh Brolin in Los Angeles. Warner Bros decided to remove the new trailer of the movie from theaters and to re-shoots (some) scene(s) in response to the tragic shootings that took place during an Aurora midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros.

According to two “knowledgeable” — though publicly unidentified — people, “studio executives are discussing the possibilities of pushing the September 7th release date and recutting the film to minimize the theater shooting scene or remove it altogether.” Currently slotted for a September 7 release, the studio had a Gangster Squad test screening scheduled within the next week or so, though that’s reportedly being tampered with as well.

"Only God Forgives" Poster + Rating?

I have no idea how I missed this but I came across the first poster for Ryan’s upcoming movie “Only God Forgives”. The movie is directed by “Drive” director Nicolas Winding Refn and hit the Cannes market in May to find a distributor. No release date is announced yet, but let’s hope we will find out soon. The movie is rumored to premiere at Venice Film Festival in August/September but the official line-up isn’t announced yet.

@ChrisGreuet_CEO released the poster earlier this year via his official twitter account and according to his description the movie is rated R but FilmRatings.com doesn’t list the movie yet as rated.

I was planning on doing this for months now, but I finally decided to actually go trough with it. I decided to change our candid policy starting today. From now on I will not add the recent candids of Ryan in our gallery, because I don’t feel confortable with posting them anymore. I feel like the paparazzi are turning into stalkerazzi lately and Ryan seems to be really annoyed/angry with them (which I totally understand).

I know a lot of you are disappointed by this decision, because our candid section in our gallery is one of our most populair one but I feel like a fansite should be a site to support the career of someone and not his personal life. I will continue to post work related candids (on set photos and during public events) and I will keep the candids in our gallery we added so far.

I hope you guys understand my decision, and I hope you will keep visiting our site. We will continue giving you the latest news and updates on Ryan’s career. He has some really exciting project coming up! I feel like this is a positie step forward for the site, where we focus on his work and career. I will now focus on expanding our site content with in-depth information and such.

New "Only God Forgives" Set Photos + Cannes press review

Possibly the most hotly anticipated footage from a number of critics was the three minutes of exclusive footage from Nicholas Winding Refn’s Drive follow-up, Only God Forgives, and it appeared to go down reasonably well. For me though, the footage was a little disappointing, coming across more like a violent commercial for a high end spirit than an interesting and intriguing scene from a film. Refn’s style is writ large here and whilst this is rather engaging all on its own, as is Gosling’s brooding intensity, there was little of substance in the footage to grasp onto.

Set in some sort of club, the scene features Gosling’s character (Julien), two Thai men and a girl who looks somewhat vacant (much like the women in the dressing room scene in Drive) and as the camera finally settles on the scene Julien suddenly gets up, walks over to the men and smashes one of the men’s glass into their face. A brief fight breaks out, with Julien clearly winning, before Julien then grabs one of the men by his face and then proceeds to drag him out of the building by his upper jaw.

The other man follows behind him and once outside the three continue to fight, or to be more precise, Julien continues to beat them both senseless. At one point he even resorts to pulling off his belt and whipping them with it. All the while swooping music plays on the soundtrack and there are constant cuts to a boxer statue.

Bathed in rich coloured lighting the sequence is, as I suggested above, stylised to the extreme and this is perhaps the only real takeaway from what we saw. The footage shown definitely seems to inhabit the same milieu as Drive and from what we saw it looks as if it will easily be as violent if not more so.

No official release date has been announced yet for Only God Forgives but it is expected late this year or very early in 2013.
